Tropical Storm Elsa Brings Heavy Rain, Flooding To New England

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Tropical Storm Elsa has brought heavy rain and flooding to parts of New England Friday morning. A flash flood warning is in effect across the region including in Worcester, Mass., Providence, R.I., Warwick, R.I.

On Friday afternoon, the National Hurricane Center referred to Elsa as a "post-tropical cyclone."

National Weather Service meteorologist Kristie Smith said there was about 8 inches of flooding on Garfield Avenue in Norwood Friday morning.

Morrissey Boulevard in Dorchester also began seeing flooding and heavy rain Friday.

There are around 50 MPH sustained winds and is moving across eastern New England. There may be a few instances of gusts of 55 to 60 MPH winds towards Cape Cod and the Islands.

Around 20 miles from Plymouth, the storm has lost tropical characteristics.
